Household wealth up fivefold
Household wealth in the UK has risen five-fold over the past 50 years, according to a report from the Halifax. The total worth of households’ property, savings and investments, was £6.3 trillion at the end of last year. The average value per household of £237,000 is three times the £73,000 in 1959. The number of homes has risen from 16.7m 50 years ago to 26.6m last year.
