Haye: Watch this David tame the Russian Goliath
LONDONER David Haye says he can topple Goliath and achieve his world championship dream.
Haye, 28, will take on Russian giant Nikolai Valuev for the WBA heavyweight crown on 7 November.
Standing at a massive 7ft tall and weighing in at 23 stone, Valuev is nine inches taller and eight stone heavier than Haye.
But the former cruiserweight champion believes he has what it takes to become the first fighter to floor the Russian giant in his 16-year career.
“David only needed a slingshot and stone to flatten Goliath, my right hand generates more power than that,” Haye said on announcing the fight yesterday.
“Valuev’s known as ‘The Beast From The East’ and there’s a reason he’s got that nickname – he’s a big, ugly, sweaty and hairy man from the Eastern Bloc,” he added.
Haye was reported to be lining up a bout with WBC champion Vitali Klitschko but admitted the two parties failed to agree terms.
“There have been long and exhausting discussions about the clash, but unfortunately I could never put my name to the fight contract the Klitschkos offered,” Haye explained.
“The level of disrespect they have shown me throughout has left me feeling insulted.”
