Gigginstown duo catch the eye in the Coral Cup
FINDING the right selection in the 26-runner Coral Cup (2.40pm) is no easy task, as one winner at a single figure price in the last decade would indicate.
The Paul Nicholls-trained Aux Ptits Soins makes his British debut this afternoon, and has reportedly been catching pigeons at home.
At 16/1 a few weeks ago I can understand the appeal of the lightly raced five-year-old, who may well be thrown in at the weights.
But at half that price I’m prepared to give him a miss in such a big field on much faster ground than he’s encountered.
At the prices, I’m willing to take a chance on UN ATOUT from the all-conquering Willie Mullins at 16/1 with Betway.
The seven-year-old has reportedly had a wind operation since disappointing at Christmas.
He is also dangerously well-handicapped off his current mark, if he can return to anything like the form that saw him finish fourth in Champagne Fever’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.
Un Atout is owned by Gigginstown Stud. They also have another extremely interesting runner in the shape of MARINERO, available at 16/1 with Skybet.
Tony Martin is one of the shrewdest trainers in town and will know exactly what this horse requires for victory.
His best piece of form came when he stepped up in trip from two miles on better ground.
He gets those conditions again this afternoon and, if he stays this trip, he’s a definite player off a fair mark.
