Fuming Barrichello berates own team for ruining his chances at German GP
FURIOUS Brawn GP driver Rubens Barrichello accused his own team of destroying his chances at yesterday’s German Grand Prix.
Barrichello took the lead at the first corner but had to settle for sixth place after being hampered by Brawn’s three-stop strategy and a pit-lane cock-up.
The Brazilian’s failure helped Mark Webber lead home team-mate Sebastian Vettel in a Red Bull one-two at the Nurburgring.
“The team have shown how to lose a race. I am terribly upset. I did all I could but they made me lose the race basically. I feel sorry for myself,” said Barrichello, who slipped to fourth in the drivers’ championship.
“I don’t want to talk to anyone in the team – all it will be from them is ‘blah, blah, blah’. I’m not saying they’re favouring anyone, all I’m saying is they’ve given a good show in how to lose.” Team boss Ross Brawn attempted to play down Barrichello’s tantrum but said his outburst would be addressed.
“Rubens has a point – it wasn’t a great race for us. We tried three stops and then we had a fuel rig problem,” said Brawn. “I’ll understand the whole situation first. I want to understand the whole picture, what he thought, what he said and we will then deal with it internally.”
