Fifa evade technology debate
FIFA remains defiant in its decision to oppose goal-line technology, despite even Prime Minister David Cameron adding to calls for it to be introduced.
Cameron joined the debate after Frank Lampard was denied a goal in Sunday’s 4-1 defeat by Germany when the ball had clearly crossed the line.
Fifa blocked any further experiments with technology at a meeting of the International FA Board in March, and stood its ground at a media briefing in Johannesburg yesterday.
Communications director Nicolas Maingot said: “We will not enter into any debate on refereeing at the daily media briefing. I am not competent to do so. The International FA Board dealt with this topic in March. A clear decision on the use of technology was taken at the time.”
