Fifa chiefs make sudden U-turn on technology vow
WORLD governing body Fifa has backtracked on its pledge to reconsider implementing goal-line technology in the wake of Frank Lampard’s disallowed World Cup strike.
Fifa president Sepp Blatter vowed to reopen the debate after Lampard’s legitimate effort was missed by all officials as England crashed out to Germany.
Blatter pinpointed tomorrow’s meeting of the International Football Association Board in Cardiff as the occasion for goal-line technology to be addressed.
But Fifa admitted yesterday that the issue would not be on the agenda, and that any possible discussion would start in October at the earliest.
