Ex-Deloitte UK chief to join AMEC
JOHN Connolly, the chief executive of Deloitte in the UK, has been appointed chairman of engineering firm AMEC.
He is due to retire from his role at the top of the international accountancy firm’s British operation at the end of this month and will join the AMEC board on 1 June.
He joins at a time when AMEC is looking to expand in the United States, after it agreed to purchase Georgia-based engineer MACTEC earlier this week.
A corporate finance specialist, Connolly has been senior partner and chief executive for 12 years.
He qualified as a chartered accountant in Manchester. He rapidly rose through the ranks and was made partner in charge of Deloitte’s Leeds office in 1983 and was appointed to run the firm’s northern region in 1985.
He moved to the firm’s London office in 1990 and was made managing partner of all offices in 1995.
Connolly is on the CBI advisory board as well as several other business and charity boards.
