START UP DISCOUNT WEBSITE LAUNCHED
The National Business Awards Entrepreneur of the Year winner Nick Ogden launched a non-for-profit website (www.business.co.uk) that is designed to encourage entrepreneurs to start their own businesses. The website hopes to provide access to the discounts, offers and incentives that are available through partnership. The companies participating so far included BT Group, School for Startups, NatWest, EasyJet, AXA Insurance, Fasthosts Internet and RJJ Freight – all of which have developed programmes to support starts ups in the UK.
UK PRIVATE EQUITY SEES WINTER DIP
The UK private equity market dipped in the final quarter of 2010, despite widespread optimism, according to a report by Corbett Keeling. While the third quarter of 2010 saw a surge in activity and a number of large deals, activity was more subdued as the winter set in. Larger buyouts saw a fall in volume and value, with just three deals valued at over €150m in the UK during the final three months of the year. Overall, 2010 saw a considerable upturn in activity in this segment compared with 2009.
STRAIGHT TALKING BUSINESS
Jo Fairley, the entrepreneur behind the Green & Black’s chocolate brand, will be speaking about the importance of straight talking in business. After the talk, drinks will be served and there will be an opportunity to network. The audience will be made up of entrepreneurs, with legal, financial and human relations advisers to speak to for guidance. The event takes place on Tuesday 1 February at The Duke of York, 130-134 Victoria Street, SW1E. Doors open at 5.30pm and the event will close around 8pm.
