Dutch star Kervezee eager to catch England’s attention
HOLLAND batsman Alexei Kervezee hopes to inspire his country to a famous World Cup victory over England today and in the process enhance his dream of ultimately representing the Three Lions.
The 21-year-old (inset), who has already been compared to Graeme Hick, and not just because of his Worcestershire ties, becomes eligible to represent England later this year.
The South African-born right-hander amassed 1,190 runs at 44.07 for his county in the second division last term and is hoping to use this tournament as a springboard to greater things.
He said: “I qualify for England in November, I think. Going on a tour next winter – be it the full side or the Lions – is an achievable ambition.
“I’ve wanted to play for England since the very beginning, so if I can build on last season, hopefully I can catch the eye of the selectors.
“The game against England, there can’t be any better way of catching the eye of the selectors than by doing well against them. This is a massive opportunity for us all.”
