Crossrail chooses building shortlist for four stations
CROSSRAIL management has picked a shortlist of companies to build four stations on the new pan-London railway, bringing the chosen construction firms closer to work worth nearly £1bn.
A joint bid by Costain and Skanska has won a place on the shortlist for all four stations, while rivals including Laing O’Rourke, Ferrovial, Lend Lease and Balfour Beatty also appear on the lists.
The new stations at Bond Street, Tottenham Court Road, Liverpool Street and Whitechapel will form part of the 118km rail link running through central London from Maidenhead to Abbey Wood.
Crossrail said the shortlisted firms will be invited to enter bids, and a final decision on the contractors is expected later this year. The line is expected to open in 2018 – one year later than originally planned in order to shave £1bn of costs from the overall budget.
