City to maintain mesmerising unbeaten home record
IT’S NO exaggeration to claim Manchester City are the best team in the world right now after their latest demolition job over Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Manuel Pellegrini’s men had destroyed Spurs at the Etihad 6-0 earlier this season and were sublime once again as they smashed the north Londoners 5-1.
The title looks like it’s theirs to lose and Sporting Index traders have reacted to the result at White Hart Lane by pushing City’s spread on the Championship 100 Index up to 50-53.
A win over Chelsea at home on Monday will only see that rise and, although the 2011-12 champions have still got to visit Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, you’d be a brave punter to back against them regaining their crown.
City have a 100 per cent home league record and scored 42 goals at the Etihad in 11 games. That’s a better figure than 16 Premier League teams have managed in total so far. Sporting Index predicted two weeks ago that Sergio Aguero and Co. would break Manchester United’s long-standing record of 143 goals in a season by 19. They’ve now moved that prediction up to 29.
Chelsea did defeat City in the reverse tie 2-1 but it was Joe Hart’s last-gasp howler that handed Fernando Torres the simplest of winners. Jose Mourinho’s team may be unbeaten in nine and have kept seven clean sheets in that run, however, they are certainly not invincible.
West Ham held them to a goalless draw on Wednesday and they’ve struggled for goals – something they’ll certainly need against City.
It’s the league’s best attack versus the league’s best defence and I’d back City’s attack over any defence on the planet right now. Only Bayern Munich have escaped the Etihad Stadium this term without losing and I don’t think the Blues are anywhere near that level.
Buying City supremacy at 0.8 is recommended and, with Aguero likely to miss the game, a buy of Stevan Jovetic’s goal minutes at 24 could be profitable if he starts. The Montenegrin has looked lively on his last two outings after a long absence through injury.
