Chelsea to net £20m profit
CHELSEA are today expected to announce a record profit of around £20m fuelled by an all-time high turnover of £325m.
The figures have been boosted by the sales of midfielder Juan Mata to Manchester United and defender David Luiz to Paris Saint-Germain for a combined £87m. The main summer signings of striker Diego Costa and midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who cost £59m in total, are not included in the 2013-14 accounts as they were announced after 30 June.
Chelsea’s second profitable year under owner Roman Abramovich’s tenure – they made £1.4m in the 2011-12 season – is an indication of the club’s adaption to European financial fair play rules.
