Cavendish off to winning start
SPRINT king Mark Cavendish made a winning start to the Tour of Britain as the Manxman outsprinted his rivals on the opening stage in Scotland.
The HTC Highroad rider overcame torrid conditions in Dumfries to finish ahead of team-mate Mark Renshaw and Rabobank’s Theo Bos.
“It’s incredible to win the first stage and get the leader’s jersey,” said the 26-year-old Cavendish, who earlier this year became the first Brit to win the Tour de France’s green jersey.
