Resident doctor strike turnout is down, NHS chief says

BRISTOL, ENGLAND - JULY 25: Striking doctors protest outside Bristol Royal Infirmary hospital on July 25, 2025 in Bristol, England. Resident doctors, formerly called junior doctors, have begun a five-day strike in England over a pay dispute with the government. Members of the British Medical Association (BMA) said earlier this week that they would go ahead with the strike, after talks with the government failed to reach an agreement over the doctors' demands for 'pay restoration.' Despite receiving an average 5.4% pay rise for this financial year and a 22% increase over the previous two years, the BMA says the Health secretary Wes Streeting said: "These strikes were unnecessary."
