Bwin.party in German spat
ONLINE gaming company Bwin.party hit out at German gambling proposals yesterday, claiming that there is not a level-playing field for domestic and foreign companies.
“Whilst we welcome the move to regulate the online gaming market in Germany, this must be in a consistent and coherent manner in-line with EU law,” the company said, as it raised concerns that plans for a newly-regulated online gaming market would be unfair on non-domestic firms.
The outburst is the latest standoff between Bwin.party and regulators in mainland Europe. Chief executive Norbert Teufelberger was questioned by Belgium gambling authorities in November on a visit to the country. A number of EU countries’ gambling industry policies are being investigated by EU officials over claims they conflict with European law.
The company also said trading had been in line with expectations since September, although October had been a very strong month.
