Bugatti Power
Veyron keyed up for super speeds
YES, YES, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes, yes please can I have one?! This is the long-awaited Bugatti Veyron which has the most amazing statistics of any production car I’ve ever come across. Its engine is a massive eight litres, it has 16 cylinders, four turbos, and seven gears. And, get this, 1001bhp. That’s more than a Formula One car. The Veyron is more than six feet wide and weighs a hefty two tons, yet it rockets to 62mph in a tarmac melting 2.5 seconds. Two and a half seconds! But my favourite top trump stat has to be the 253mph top speed which, incidentally, can only be unleashed by turning a very special key… on a very long and straight road. And if that lot hasn’t made your jaw drop yet, then this might — you won’t see much change from £850,000. On sale right now, Bugatti plans to sell 50 of them a year.
If Bugatti’s Veyron is a little outside the budget, then TVR’s £40,000 youngest family member might fit the bill. This new Tuscan Convertible is four litres and six cylinders of noisy fun, wrapped in a body that’s as curvy as an Alpine road. London’s newest TVR dealership will happily help you become an owner of one, and its doors open for the first time tomorrow night. The address if you want to go along is London TVR, North London Freight Depot, York Way, Kings Cross, N1 0UZ.
