Brilliant England worthy winners
ENGLAND are worthy winners and you have to tip your hat to the selectors and coach Andy Flower for the way they picked and prepared a team to do a specific job.
At first we thought perhaps Jimmy Anderson was unlucky to miss out in favour of Ryan Sidebottom, but he repaid the selectors’ faith yesterday, and they have all contributed at various stages. Craig Kiewsetter also played terrifically well against Australia, Kevin Pietersen was consistently amongst it and in the early games Eoin Morgan showed everybody how to play Twenty20 cricket.
The fact England have won an ICC competition shows the country’s set-up is getting its act together, and this win will do wonders for confidence.
The shorter forms of the game can be very random. All sides have potential but right now England and Australia are the best, and our unit will be around for a while.
Will this help us win the Ashes? I don’t know but we’ve won the World Twenty20, we hold the Ashes and any objective observer would say England are doing well right now.
Credit must also go to captain Paul Collingwood. I have said for a long time that we need different teams for different formats, and I hope it is a sign of things to come.
