Asset Friedel going nowhere as Villas-Boas backs veteran
TOTTENHAM manager Andre Villas-Boas has issued a hands-off warning over veteran keeper Brad Friedel, despite the American being set to make only his first start in a month against Panathinaikos in the Europa League tonight.
Friedel, 41, has been linked with former club Blackburn, after being dropped for £8m summer signing Hugo Lloris from Lyon. But Villas-Boas said: “We are trying to hold onto our best assets and Brad is certainly one of them. Rotation has not been because of performances. Both goalkeepers’ performances have been excellent.”
Spurs need a point tonight to progress to the knockout stages, while three points could see them top their group above Lazio. Both Gareth Bale and Michael Dawson will miss the fixture with hamstring injuries.
