Analyst Views: What was your reaction to Tui Travel’s third quarter statement?
KARL BURNS PANMURE GORDON
“Yesterday’s fall in share price was purely down to profit taking. Tui had fairly strong trading in the third quarter but perhaps not as strong as some were hoping for. With the tough comparatives in the fourth quarter and the good weather it means that the full year could be in-line rather than ahead of expectations.

“The key takeaway from yesterday is that Tui’s numbers are fine but there is no scope to justifying a further push to the shares, which have already had a good run this year. Trading looks fine but not sensational. There are plenty of troublesome areas like France. The positive share price reaction has got ahead of itself.

“They have been working very hard to improve their flexibility and the extent to which their product is reasonably differentiated and exclusive. The benefits are showing through, particular now when there have been headwinds in places like Turkey and Egypt. Improving their model has given them greater stability.
