TPV Technology was a logical partner, as it was one of Philips’ most important outsourcing partners. The key was to get the TV business off the company’s profit and loss sheet. In Europe, austerity measures have some impact in Southern Europe and the UK but Northern Europe is on track.

My expectation is that it is not likely to get a lot of value out of the joint venture. The TV business would probably continue to lose market share, but the deal is positive on the whole.
