Adapting Morgan looks to seize his opportunity
EOIN MORGAN admits he will need to seize his opportunity this summer if he is to break into England’s Test side for the Ashes series.
The Dublin-born one-day specialist has been given a chance to impress selectors in the five-day format after Ian Bell was ruled out of the forthcoming series with Pakistan with a broken metatarsal.
Morgan, 23, has played just two Test matches for England but is expected to be given the nod ahead of Ravi Bopara for the first Test at Trent Bridge, which starts on 29 July.
And the Middlesex left-hander knows he will need to be in the runs during the four-Test series if he is to keep his place in the middle order on the winter tour to Australia.
“I only came into the side a year ago and a lot has happened since then, if I have another year like this, I will be very happy,” Morgan said.
“But it means taking every opportunity as it comes. I need to get a lot of runs because the competition for places is fierce. I will be looking to get as many runs as I can.
