City comes together again to raise funds for our heroes
It’s that time again – when the cream of the culinary world are pulling out all the stops to lay on a lavish bash to raise funds for our service men and women and their families.
This time Square Mile Salute are recreating the exclusive world of The Birley Clubs in the City’s historic seat of power, Guildhall, where guests will enjoy signature dishes and wines from Harry’s Bar, George, Marks Club and Annabel’s.
Chairman of The Birley Clubs Richard Caring said: “I have long been a supporter of military charities and the work that they carry out, particularly when it comes to the men and women wounded whilst fighting for our country. We at The Birley Clubs are delighted to be supporting Square Mile Salute for this great cause.”
The banquet is preceded by a reception sponsored by Baxter Storey and hosted by Monica Galetti, MasterChef: The Professionals judge whose delicious canapes will be accompanied by Kings Fine Foods caviar and Gusbourne award winning English sparkling wine.
Monica said: “I first learnt about Square Mile Salute fundraising event two years ago when as a Roux chef I created one of the course. I was overwhelmed by the stories, the courage and sacrifice that our Men and Women in the armed forces go through to provide us our freedom.”

MAYOR OF LONDON BORIS JOHNSON
“The annual Square Mile Salute has become a fundraising fixture in the capital and proves London is alive and kicking with philanthropic spirit. The event brings together the very best of the hospitality industry with the capital’s big financial hitters to support our servicemen and women and their families. I salute all of those taking part and urge everyone attending to dig deep and raise some serious cash for these important causes.”
ANDY REID, AUTHOR AND MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER
“I’m a survivor not a victim, but I appreciate all of the help I received on the road to recovery and now it’s fantastic to know that through my own work, I am helping others to gain confidence.”
LORD MAYOR OF LONDON ALAN YARROW
“We in the City of London Corporation are delighted to host the 2015 Square Mile Salute in London’s historic Guildhall. For over 600 years, this building has been at the heart of the City and Livery’s support for the Armed Forces, and earlier this year it played host to nearly 1000 service personnel and their families, to mark the end of combat operations in Afghanistan. While commemorating what has taken place, and commiserating with those who have suffered loss, we in the City recognize the immense contribution that continues to be made in so many theatres of war and humanitarian crises. Long may Square Mile Salute raise awareness and support for the Armed Forces community, and I hope the 2015 City Giving Day will also showcase Livery Company links with units and cadets, and the important bond between businesses and reservists.”
