OFT goes on hiring spree

THE Office of Fair Trading (OFT) yesterday announced the appointment of the Treasury&rsquo;s head of financial stability, Clive Maxwell, to run its services division as it continues a reshuffle started last month.<br /><br />Maxwell, a key player in the government&rsquo;s bailout of the banking sector, will join the watchdog as senior director of services on secondment from the Treasury in October.<br /><br />The regulator added that it has hired ex-Morgan Stanley executive Noah Curthoys, as director of strategy and planning; Mario Tsavellas as head of business services; Sarah Berwick as a senior competition lawyer; and John Parker as a director in the credit division.<br /><br />OFT chief executive John Fingleton and that the hirings will &ldquo;strengthen the OFT&rsquo;s senior capacity at a time when ensuring strong competition and fair behaviour towards consumers is more important than ever&rdquo;.
