Exiles grab bonus point to climb back into play-offs
LONDON IRISH (38) vs SALE (0)
HIS side may have run in five tries and racked up 38 points, but London Irish head coach Toby Booth was most pleased with restricting Sale to a “big fat zero”.
England reject Steffon Armitage continued his fine form with two tries, while John Rudd, Peter Hewat and Alex Corbisiero also crossed in a bonus-point win.
“From being one of the best defensive sides in the last few years we’ve leaked points and contributed massively to our downfall but we defended well today,” said Booth. Of flanker Armitage, who was dropped from the England squad by Martin Johnson midway through the Six Nations, Booth added: “He’s becoming a more complete player because he offers so much in attack as well as defence.”
Victory saw the Exiles leapfrog Wasps, who they face next week, while struggling Sale remain 10th and just two points off the bottom.
