Matrix Group has expanded its investment banking business after appointing Paul James as chief operating officer (COO) of the investment banking arm. James moves into the role with immediate effect and joins after 20 years experience in investment banking.
He was most recently COO of global banking and markets HSBC and has previously held a number of roles with Merrill Lynch, Instinet and BNP Paribas.
John Carmody has joined Aviva Investors from BlackRock and will take up the global strategy director for financial institutions post.
Carmody will work with Aviva’s sales teams to develop new and existing relationships with financial institution clients and will help to facilitate cross-border business. He will also focus on partnering financial institutions seeking an asset manager with an aligned global reach.
At BlackRock, Carmody was director of business development for the EMEA institutional wealth management division and prior to that, he spent time at UBS Global Asset Management as an executive director and co-head of middle markets institutional.
Coal of Africa
South African Aim-listed coal mining and development company, Coal of Africa (CoA) has announced the appointment of John Wallington as the group’s chief executive officer.
Wallington will step into the role next month after 30 years of experience in the coal exploration and mining industry.
SDI has hired Mike Creedon to take over the role of chief financial officer, joining the group’s board immediately.
Creedon brings a number of years experience working with technology businesses and quoted companies and is a chartered certified accountant.
He recently served as financial director at Innovision, a subsidiary to NASDAQ listed company Leitch Technology and as finance director of Ninth Floor.
PSigma Asset Management
PSigma Asset Management has bolstered its business after hiring Eric Moore to its UK team. He will work alongside Bill Mott, Neil Cumming, David Hallam and Niall Coyne.
Moore joins PSigma with over 15 years investment management experience, including spending a decade at Gartmore Investment Management and most recently five years as a director in the UK equities division at Insight Investment.
* Yesterday we said Ken McCall had left his role as chief executive of DHL Express, UK & Ireland to join Supergroup as a non-executive. McCall is still chief executive and will perform both roles.
