BarCap poaches Rothschild's Marsaglia amid growth drive

BARCLAYS Capital has taken its plans to become a global investment-banking player up a gear by naming Stefano Marsaglia, the respected Rothschild banker, as chairman of its financial institutions group (FIG).<br /><br />In the latest in a series of high-profile hires Barclays has snapped up the Italian heavyweight, who has spent the last 17 years at the famous City investment bank Rothschild.<br /><br />The 54-year-old was most recently co-head of investment banking for Europe at Rothschild. He was also co-global head of its FIG unit, which advises financial services firms such as banks and insurers.<br /><br />He has advised on giant deals for Spanish banking giant Santander, Italian lender UniCredit and Intesa, another Italian bank.
