Avram's on a revenge mission

AVRAM GRANT will be looking to exact revenge on Manchester United this weekend when he returns to management as the new boss of Portsmouth.

The former Chelsea chief was announced yesterday as the successor to Paul Hart, who was sacked by the Fratton Park club earlier this week.

And the Israeli opens his account with a home clash with champions Manchester United – the team which cruelly denied him victory in a penalty shoot-out on his last game in charge at Chelsea in the 2008 Champions League final in Moscow.

Grant, 54, returned to Pompey as director of football last month and now takes over a team languishing at the foot of the Premier League table with just seven points from 13 games.

Chief executive officer Peter Storrie confirmed: “Avram is a very experienced and respected manager who has managed at the highest level.

“The board believes he is the man to help steer the club out of the relegation zone.

“He knows the club, the players and the set-up at Fratton Park, so it was the logical move to make him the next manager, once the board had decided to relieve Paul Hart of the role.”
