Ah, Black Friday. It may have started as an American tradition - but in recent years it's become more British than watching the Queen's speech while wearing a jauntily-angled Christmas cracker hat.

Amazon will launch The Black Friday Sale, which it bills as 12 days of pre-Christmas offers with "thousands of deals, saving customers millions of pounds", on Monday 14 November.

Its deals store launches properly on Monday, and will include hundreds of different deals each day, from HD TVs, phones and audio products, to beauty products and home accessories.

Argos has come over all Amazon this year, with a 13-day "bonanza" which runs past Black Friday and into Cyber Monday.

The bargains will start coming on 18 November - Argos has promised "sizeable discounts" on a range of technology, toys, consumer electronics and domestic appliances.

It added that last year its website got 12 million visits on Black Friday, with shoppers making 18 transactions a second during peak trading periods.

Tesco Direct

Tesco is keeping its cards close to its chest this year, but said its version of Black Friday will run from 21 November until 28 November - and promised "fantastic deals".
