United progress after surviving Ajax scare
MANCHESTER UTD 1 vs AJAX 2
MANCHESTER UNITED defender Phil Jones admitted his side were guilty of complacency after they sneaked into the last 16 of the Europa League despite losing at home against Ajax last night.
United looked set for a comfortable evening when Javier Hernandez clinically opened the scoring after just six minutes, but Aras Ozbiliz’s equaliser and Toby Alderweireld’s late header ensured a nervy finish.
“We got off to a great start, scored and seemed to be in control of the game,” said Jones, whose side will meet Athletic Bilbao in the next round. “But a little bit of complacency set in. “The manager said at half-time we’ve got to up the tempo and we didn’t do that for whatever reasons. We weren’t good enough in the second half, nowhere near.”
