School-leavers lack workplace skills, CIPD says
DEMAND for migrant workers has reached a record high as school-leavers lack the skills needed for the workplace, new research says.
One in four employers now plan to hire migrant workers in the third quarter of the year, according to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) quarterly survey.
Thirty-four per cent of employers are hiring more workers from the EU rather than improving the skills of existing workers (23 per cent) or recruiting more graduates (18 per cent), the study said.
