Rail groups call for cuts review
Train companies have called for a “swift and rigorous” review of existing rail investment to ensure that money is being spent in the interest of passengers and taxpayers. The Association of Train Operating Companies (ATOC) has written to the state transport minister, Theresa Villiers, and said that it accepts that the £8bn due to be invested in enhancing the rail networks may be affected by the “unprecedented situation in the public finances warrants a review of commitments”. The ATOC said that train companies should join the Department for Transport and Network Rail in reviewing infrastructure projects.
