Places still left for triathlon with star Daley
CITY A.M. readers have only days left to grab the sporting chance of a lifetime and become members of the Laureus team in this year’s ITU London Triathlon – and receive special training from double Olympic gold medallist Daley Thompson.
Dutch banker Eduard Egelie is one of 17 City A.M. readers who have already signed up for this unique opportunity. An enthusiastic marathon runner, he says competing in the Laureus / City A.M. team will be an unbelievable experience.
“One of the great things about London is that people are really supportive and come out in droves for events like the marathon and the triathlon. It will be amazing taking part,” said Eduard.
The London leg of the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship, which takes place over next year’s spectacular Olympic course on 6 August, is sold out.
But Laureus, as the global charity partner of the International Triathlon Union, has teamed up with City A.M. to provide the chance for 25 readers to compete alongside the greatest triathletes in the world – and at the same time raise funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation.
With only a few places left, interested readers should e-mail campbell.gray@laureus.com without delay.
Eduard, 42, has worked in the City since 1997, most recently with RBS since 2009. He said: “I am a big fan of raising money through sport events. It is a fantastic way to combine a personal goal with helping a good cause.”
Decathlon great Thompson will provide two training days for the Laureus / City A.M. team and also be on hand to support the racers on the day.
He said: “This allows sports enthusiasts to race at an iconic London 2012 venue alongside elite athletes, while raising funds for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Last year I had great fun training the Laureus team and I know it will be the same this year with the Laureus / City A.M.team.”
The race takes place over a dramatic course involving The Serpentine, Hyde Park, Constitution Hill and Buckingham Palace. England’s Brownlee brothers, Alistair and Jonathan, will be looking to win the men’s race to enhance their Olympic prospects for next year. The Laureus / City A.M. team will be competing over two distances – Sprint and Olympic.
