Nigeria defend stadium decision
NIGERIAN officials have defended their choice of the venue for Sunday’s warm-up match with North Korea which was marred by a mass stampede.
Sixteen people, including two policemen, were injured when 10,000 fans turned up for the match at the Makhulong Stadium in Johannesburg.
But Nigerian Football Federation chief Taiwo Ogunjobi said a bigger venue could not be found. He said: “We strived really hard to find a bigger stadium but unfortunately Fifa had taken control of the stadiums from South Africa. It was out of our hands.”
