Huntelaar strikes as Dutch make it three from three
CAMEROON (1) vs HOLLAND(2)
KLAAS-JAN HUNTELAAR ensured Holland eased into the last 16 of the World Cup with a 100 per cent record as Cameroon’s campaign ended without a point on the board.
The Real Madrid striker fired home the winner seven minutes from time after Arjen Robben, who climbed off the bench for his first taste of the tournament following injury, struck a post with a 20-yard drive.
The Dutch had earlier gone in front through Arsenal striker Robin van Persie, who
finished off a neat move nine minutes before the break.
But the Cameroons put in a spirited display and deservedly pulled level when Geremi’s
free-kick clearly struck the arm of Rafael van der Vaart and Samuel Eto’o rifled home the
resulting spot-kick for his second goal of the tournament.
But the Dutch were to have the last laugh and after Van Persie and Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt both went close to restoring their lead, Huntelaar popped up with a late winner to earn Bert Van Marwijk’s Orange Army a last 16 clash with Slovakia on Monday.
