Hodgson to announce new look England squad without Terry
ENGLAND manager Roy Hodgson will today announce his squad for the World Cup qualifiers against
San Marino and Poland but will do so without both the recently-retired John Terry and Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling, who has been called up by Stuart Pearce for the U21s.
Hodgson’s main dilemma surrounds who to use as Terry’s replacement. Having previously claimed to have overlooked Manchester United’s Rio Ferdinand for “footballing reasons” it appears unlikely the defender will be recalled, though despite speculation to the contrary, Tottenham’s Steven Caulker is in the U21 squad and is therefore consequently also unavailable.
“Roy [Hodgson] and I have had a long conversation, and he is more than aware of the U21s’ key players,” said Pearce.
“What’s certain is the players are at the centre of the decisions both Roy and I make. We have to put as strong a squad as possible out.”
