Frankie’s Thoughts
The QIPCO British Champions Series has been a tremendous success so far and the personal highlight for me was Rewilding’s win in the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot. He unfortunately suffered a fatal injury in the King George last month, but he was a fantastic horse and his battle with So You Think at the Royal meeting will live long in the memory.
From a general point of view, Frankel’s performance in the QIPCO 2,000 Guineas is the one I’ve been most impressed with this season. It was gobsmacking and although he was brilliant at Goodwood, I haven’t seen many displays like the one he put up on Guineas day.
Looking ahead to York and it’s unlikely that Rio De La Plata will run in Wednesday’s Juddmonte International. If he doesn’t, I will probably take the ride on Snow Fairy, who has some good form at York and ran a decent race behind Midday in the Group One Nassau Stakes at Goodwood last time.
I last won the Darley Yorkshire Oaks in 1994 on Only Royale and I hope to end the wait on Thursday with Blue Bunting. She is a dual-Classic winner and I was very impressed with her at the Curragh last time. It’s always hard taking on the older generation, but she is a top-class filly and should have a strong chance.
Delegator runs at Newbury tomorrow and I’m just hoping there isn’t too much rain as he’s much better on a quick surface.
