ECONOMIST VIEWS: DID INFLATION BOUNCE BACK IN APRIL?
PHILIP SHAW | INVESTEC
“We are forecasting a rise to 4.2 per cent in the consumer price index for April, up from four per cent in March. We still consider there to be a risk that inflation hits five per cent later this year, but this would be diminished were oil prices to remain below $100 per barrel.”
SIMON WARD | HENDERSON GLOBAL INVESTORS
“I am in line with the consensus expecting a CPI rate of 4.1 per cent for April. We forecast inflation to peak at 4.6 per cent later this year before falling back below three per cent in early 2012. From late 2012, I think inflation will stabilise at about 2.75 per cent.”
HOWARD ARCHER | IHS GLOBAL INSIGHT
“Tomorrow’s data is expected to show that annual consumer price inflation climbed back up to 4.2 per cent in April after surprisingly dipping to four per cent in March from a 28-month high of 4.4 per cent in February. Core inflation could rise back to 3.3 per cent.”
