Deloitte chooses chairman
DELOITTE Touche Tohmatsu is preparing to name its new international chairman today, expected to be Steve Almond, a long-time managing director of its global division.
He will take over from John Connolly, who has just left the role, at a time when the audit industry is facing legal challenges and regulatory hurdles. Recently in the UK, the Treasury Select Committee slammed the audit industry as an “oligopoly”.
Almond’s appointment follows the creation of 63 new partners at the firm in addition to the recruitment of 30 more, which has now brought the total number to 953.
Almond, who was speaking to the FT, said that his role as chairman will involve coordinating Deloitte’s lobbying effort globally so as to inform regulatory changes.
“We have to be prepared to speak with a global voice to the world of regulators,” he said.
