Contador blames positive drugs test on a contaminated meal
TOUR de France winner Alberto Contador last night blamed contaminated meat for the failed drug test that threatens to destroy his reputation.
It emerged yesterday that three-time Tour winner Contador tested positive for the steroid clenbuterol during this year’s race, with a ‘B’ sample confirming the results.
But the amount of the banned substance was so tiny – 400 times lower than the level at which accredited laboratories must be able to detect – that the Spaniard insists there is only one possible explanation.
“This is an error,” Contador said. “It’s such a minimal amount that it is only possible to come from a food contamination.”
