Man Group
The investment management firm has made two appointments to its board. Emmanuel Roman, chief operating officer, becomes an executive director and Matthew Lester, chief finance officer of the Royal Mail Group, becomes a non-executive director. Roman joined Man as COO following the acquisition of GLG Partners, which he joined in 2005 after 18 years at Goldman Sachs. Lester previously held finance roles at ICAP and Diageo.
Fenchurch Advisory Partners
The investment bank has appointed Guy Miller to the firm as a managing director. Until recently, Miller was head of European financial institutions M&A at Royal Bank of Scotland. Prior to joining RBS, Miller worked at Schroders and Citigroup.
Emerging Capital Partners
The pan-African private equity specialist has appointed Andrew Brown to the newly created position of chief investment officer in the firm’s Paris office. The hiring follows the close of ECP’s Africa Fund III last June.
J O Hambro
The investment boutique J O Hambro Capital Management has recruited Asian equity fund managers Samir Mehta and Cho-Yu Kooi to its Singapore office, following the acquisition of Silver Metis Capital Management, which was founded in 2007 by Mehta. Kooi joins from Lloyd George Management, where she was portfolio manager.

The global law firm has hired South African counsel Natascha Belford to its Johannesburg office. Belford joins from the investment management division of ABSA Capital, where she spent five-and-a-half years as an in-house legal counsel. The firm has also hired four associates: Sarah Lafleur, Tholinhlanhla Gcabashe, Lauren Petersen and Gary Anderson.
Standard Chartered
The emerging markets bank has promoted Diana Layfield from group head of strategy and corporate development to regional chief executive officer for Africa, effective from 22 June. Layfield will be responsible for the growth of the bank’s business in Africa, succeeding Mike Hart, who becomes vice-chairman for the bank’s operations in Africa.
