Centrica profit soars by 65pc
ENERGY supplier Centrica has seen its operating profit soar by 65 per cent in the first half of the year.
Centrica, which is the parent company pf British Gas, saw a profit of £1.56bn up until the end of June.
British Gas profits doubled to £585m compared to £295m last year.
The cold weather at the start of the year drove a strong earnings performance.
However, rising gas wholesale prices, which have jumped around 30 per cent in the last four months, mean the second half will not be as strong.
The company said in a statement: “Centrica has performed well in the year to date. We are well positioned to deliver long-term value for our shareholders while maintaining a competitive, high quality service for our customers.”
