Boris says government must not cut spending on employment
MAYOR of London Boris Johnson has warned the government not to cut vital funding that will boost employment in the capital.
The plea came ahead of unemployment figures due this morning that will show one in three working-age Londoners do not have a job.
Johnson is calling for funding to be maintained for the London Development Agency, which he believes has the power to get Londoners back to work. He said: “London is the engine room of the UK economy, where each employee is on average 30 per cent more productive than those elsewhere. We face a huge challenge in getting everyone into work, but the rewards are worth it.
“The government is promising a new era of localism. London can build on our successes with investment in a new generation of innovative, local and flexible programmes that meet the needs of Londoners.”
