Argentina set for bond talks
ARGENTINA’S lawyer warned yesterday that a deal between the country and its holdout creditors is “impossible”, as a US court ordered the two sides to hold constant talks o try and avoid a disastrous default.
US District Judge Thomas Griesa told Argentina and lawyers for the bondholders to show up to a meeting in New York this morning and negotiate “continuously until a settlement is reached”.
But Jonathan Blackman, a lawyer for Argentina, said talks are “unlikely, if not impossible, to result in settlement” on the bonds that were left out of a restructuring from the country’s 2002 default.
The Argentine presidency said last night that the court had solved none of the issues brought before it.
