Anglo American’s Cynthia Carroll to step down
Anglo American’s chief executive Angela Carroll is to step down after more than five years in the role, it was announced this morning.
Carroll has been under pressure from some shareholders over share price performance, and the miner’s continued dependence on South Africa.
Industrial action in South Africa spread to Anglo American Platinum, the world’s top producer of the metal, last month.
The FTSE 100 boss said that as she entered her seventh year in the role, she felt the time was right to hand over to a successor.
Carroll will remain in the post until a successor has been appointed. Sir John Parker will lead the search for a new chief executive.
