Brexit won’t be “derailed” says Prime Minister Theresa May
Theresa May has come out on the offensive warning that Brexit will not be derailed after gaining the green light to move on to the second phase of talks with the EU.
“Amid all the noise, we are getting on with the job. In the face of those who want to talk Britain down, we are securing the best and most ambitious Brexit deal for our whole United Kingdom,” said the Prime Minister, writing in the Sunday Telegraph.

“And my message today is very clear: we will not be derailed from this fundamental duty to deliver the democratic will of the British people.”
But May last week also suffered defeat at the hands of her own MPs, after Tory rebels swung a vote on an amendment to the EU Withdrawal bill.
And in the Sunday Express, she said: “I will not be derailed from my duty to deliver your democratic decision. Amid all the noise this Government is getting on with the job.”

Meanwhile, two Tory peers warned May over “strong-arm tactics” of Tory whips and further defeats when the bill= reaches the Lords.
“Mindful of the monumental importance for future generations of getting Brexit right, the Lords is unlikely to be receptive to bullying over a restricted timetable or vigorous whipping to toe the party line,” said former pensions minister Ros Altman and Patience Wheatcroft, a former Telegraph editor, writing in the Observer.
