AFTER a three-month wait, the Senior Tour gets underway with the Brunei Masters this weekend – and I simply can’t wait to get back out on the course.
Winning the Order of Merit last year was a tremendous feeling and I’m determined to experience that feeling again this year.
Each year throws up different challenges and this is no different. Once again, we’re playing some fantastic courses at some fantastic events and the standard will be as tough as ever.
I understand Andrew Oldcorn is the latest name to join us on the Tour this year, but my biggest rival once again will undoubtedly be Ian Woosnam.
Woosy is playing out in Brunei this week and it’ll be great to renew acquaintances with my old pal. Three-time Senior Tour winner Carl Mason is likely to be there or thereabouts again, while former Open and Masters champion Sandy Lyle is due to play a few more events this year, I understand, so it promises to be an exciting campaign.
There’s no tougher start really than the Brunei Masters, which is very hot and humid and played on a very dangerous course. But I’m confident and feel I’m playing well at the moment, so hopefully that will continue.
It was nice to see another good performance from Ian Poulter in the Phoenix Open at the weekend. It’s difficult to be in contention two tournaments running, but Poults followed up his tremendous WGC-Match Play victory with another solid display, which included a second-round 63.
Successive 70s, however, weren’t enough to trouble Hunter Mahan, who came from four shots back to win.
