Occupy LSX protesters still noisy and abusive to clergy – St Paul’s

PROTESTERS outside St Paul’s continue to abuse clergy and disrupt services, cathedral officials said yesterday.

The presence of the Occupy LSX camp also triggered a drop in worshippers over the Christmas period, St Paul’s registrar Nicholas Cottam said in a letter to the City of London, despite activists’ repeated claims to be “working with” the church.

Mr Cottam said priests were abused when they arrived for a special service last week and he also tells of several days in January when protesters refused to stop playing loud music, which had disrupted services.

The number of people attending services fell 17 per cent to 38,000 between 17 December and 20 January. Visitor numbers fell 15 per cent to 58,752 over a similar period, despite better weather than last year.
