Lloyds bank announces almost 1,000 job losses

LLOYDS Banking Group announced 990 job cuts yesterday, which the part-nationalised bank said formed part of last year’s broader plans to axe 15,000 jobs across the company.

Around 990 positions are set to go as a result of site closures in LTSB Scunthorpe, LTSB Dudley and HBOS Romford and HBOS Newcastle.

The roles will come from within the group operations, group executive functions, risk, wholesale and insurance divisions.

Lloyds’ group operations division, which carries out back office processing, is consolidating its activities in fewer sites, reducing these from 27 to 15, and is expected to announce more redundancies and site closures during the course of this year.

David Fleming, national officer for the Unite trade union said: “Already some 28,000 employees have lost their jobs as a result of the past poor management decisions at the top of this organisation. Now staff across the LBG insurance, HR, wholesale, retail and group operations will face uncertain future.”

The bank has announced plans to cut 15,000 jobs as part of a restructuring designed to save £1.5bn a year.
