Retailer WH Smith has announced interim results for the six months to 28 February. The firm saw profit before tax up five per cent to £69m as both parts of the business grew. The travel division rose by seven per cent while high street efforts improved by a more tepid two per cent.

Commenting on the results, Kate Swann, Group Chief Executive said:
Both businesses continue to increase profit year on year, despite the challenging economic environment.
We expect the trading environment to remain challenging however the business is in good shape and is well positioned for continued growth in both the UK and internationally.
