Thatcher's funeral to take place next Wednesday

Baroness Thatcher, the pioneering Prime Minister who revived the UK economy and transformed British politics, died yesterday at the age of 87.

World leaders rushed to pay tribute to the first woman to lead a Western democracy, who passed away at the Ritz hotel following a stroke.

David Cameron cut short his European tour to praise her record, saying she “saved our country” and had a “lion-hearted love” for the UK.


Barack Obama, the US President, celebrated Thatcher’s central role in ending the Cold War. “The world has lost one of the great champions of freedom and liberty. She helped restore the confidence and pride that has always been the hallmark of Britain at its best,” he said.
